Mart van Schijndel set up his own office in 1968 after completing his training at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. He had been the name behind a considerable number of architectural and interior design projects, also designing much of the furniture and lightning for these himself. In addition to his office work, he also taught at several prominent Dutch institutes for art and architecture, and was a professor of architecture in Düsseldorf for several years.
