Geoffrey Harcourt (1935) is an artist and designer who studied at the Royal College of Art in London and has won many awards for his contemporary furniture designs. Harcourt has been designing furniture for numerous European manufacturing companies since the early 1960’s. Known for his simple, yet often colorful designs, many of Harcourt’s works are contemporary reproductions of classical furniture, such as his 1970 interpretation of the chaise lounge, which
he calls the Cleopatra.
As a designer, Harcourt believed that needs of the user should govern the design of a piece of furniture, and not the other way around. This philosophy proved successful in 1962, when the chairs he designed for office and reception areas achieved immediate international success. Harcourt furniture continues to be manufactured today. bron: www.artnet.com
